The Bay Area's 7th Annual Arab Film Festival is excited to return with a rich new program of films representative of the extraordinary spectrum of style, narrative, cinematography, and content that is uniquely Arab. With the Palestine/Israel conflict and Iraq a major topic in current affairs, this year's festival and its message prove to be more significant than ever. With Western images of the Arab world often rooted in either racism or stereotypes, this mindful collection of films brings some of the important and often missed insights of the Arab world to frequently naive western eyes. Twenty-two countries make up the Arab world, with a great number of the population living in Diaspora, but all contributing to a rich, complex cultural diversity of different dialects, different religions, and different traditions. The Arab Film Festival offers realistic portrayals of Arabs from Arabs themselves, countering the commonly negative imagery associated with the region.
